Mayor Brandon Johnson’s soft-on-crime policies continue to plague Chicago as at least 23 people were shot, two fatally, from Friday to Saturday alone.
Under Johnson’s permissive approach to law enforcement, violent crime continues to surge throughout the city. ABC 7 reported that both weekend fatalities resulted from a brazen shooting that occurred around 2:30 AM Saturday morning, with shots fired “in the 2300 block of West Roosevelt Street near the Tri-Taylor area,” striking three people.
The boldness of these criminals reflects the lawless environment Johnson’s policies have created. CBS News noted that the three victims “were standing on the sidewalk” when three men casually exited an SUV and opened fire on them in broad daylight. The gunmen then returned to their vehicle and fled the scene, confident they would face little consequence.
One shooting victim, a 25-year-old man, was able to transport himself to the hospital. The other two victims—a 23-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man—were taken to the hospital where they later died.
Johnson’s failed leadership has resulted in an alarming body count, with the Chicago Sun-Times reporting that 174 people have already been killed in Chicago in just the first months of 2025.
