The ongoing conflict between Elon Musk and Donald Trump’s inner circle persists, despite the tech mogul’s role as a key White House adviser. Musk launched an attack on top Trump official Sergio Gor just under two weeks following his public apology for explosive rants against the president and his team.
According to Politico, Elon Musk used his social media platform X during a late-night session to go after Sergio Gor, a senior adviser to President Donald Trump, branding him a “snake.” This attack followed a New York Post report alleging that Gor, in his capacity as White House personnel office director, failed to file required documentation for permanent security clearance, even while managing the vetting process for thousands of White House employees.
The White House, however, insists that Gor possesses active security clearance and satisfies all applicable requirements. “Mr. Gor has completely fulfilled all pertinent ethical and legal requirements. His security clearance remains active, and any suggestion otherwise is false,” stated White House Counsel David Warrington.
Vice President JD Vance similarly defended Gor, commending his work in ensuring America First priorities shape the president’s policies. “He performed exceptionally and will continue doing so,” Vance stated.
Tensions between Musk and Gor had been escalating for months, with the billionaire choosing not to work with Gor following a contentious cabinet session in March. During that meeting, Musk engaged in disputes with fellow cabinet members regarding suggested budget reductions to their departments, leading President Trump to specify that department leaders, rather than Musk’s DOGE program, maintained control over their areas.
The conflict intensified when Gor orchestrated the retraction of Jared Isaacman’s NASA Administrator nomination, a candidate Musk had vigorously supported. This move seemed to trigger Musk’s subsequent social media assault on the president and his “big tent” approach.
Trump later indicated that withdrawing Isaacman’s nomination likely influenced Musk’s decision to openly attack the president. This public confrontation, occurring alongside Musk’s intended exit from government roles, essentially ended the previously tight bond between the president and his one-time “first buddy.”
Nevertheless, relations between both men seem to have improved somewhat since their major digital dispute. Trump has stated he holds “no grudges” against his former associate, while Musk posted an apology on X, acknowledging he “overstepped” in his presidential criticisms during their conflict.
