CANDEIAS, Brazil — A massive serpent measuring approximately 26 feet in length has sent residents of a Brazilian neighborhood into a state of panic after security cameras captured the enormous reptile slithering through a residential area near Recife.
The giant snake was recorded on surveillance footage as it made its way toward a building’s parking lot in Candeias, a municipality in the metropolitan area of Recife, the capital of Pernambuco state. The shocking footage has since gone viral on social media, showing the sheer size of the creature as it moves across the pavement.
Search Efforts Come Up Empty
Despite immediate response efforts, the serpent has completely vanished, leaving authorities and residents on edge. The Brazilian environmental agency Ibama dispatched teams on Thursday to locate and safely relocate the massive reptile, but their extensive search efforts have yielded no results.
Local authorities conducted a thorough sweep of the area, including nearby buildings, vacant lots, and potential hiding spots, but the snake appears to have disappeared without a trace.
Residents Point to Potential Hiding Spot
Community members now believe the enormous reptile may be concealed in an abandoned house situated near a vacant lot in the neighborhood. The structure, which has been unoccupied for an extended period, provides numerous potential hiding places for a creature of this size.
“Everyone is afraid to go outside, especially at night,” said one local resident who asked not to be identified. “We never expected to see something like this in our neighborhood.”
